>Lessons Learned on the Day of a Dinner Party, or. The Best Laid Plans….

February 20, 2010

>

1. The second you put away the vacuum, the dust-bunnies will all crawl out from under the furniture and laugh at you.

2. No matter how detailed you try to be, you’ll notice a big glob of something stuck to your cupboards the second your guests start to arrive.

3. Plan ahead, make lists, keep a schedule that is military-precise and stuff will still go awry.

4. Even if stuff goes awry, your guests won’t care.

5. It really doesn’t matter what you serve, what you drink, or what your house looks like. They are all going to have fun anyway.
And here’s a couple that Scrappy learned today:

6. Keep your face away from your brother’s rocking horse swing (see photo).

7. Blood makes Mommy sprint faster than Flo Jo..

8. If you just keep crying and saying “owie!” Mommy will rock you until kingdom come.

(I guess it wasn’t the last time, eh?)

And Scooby:

9. When you see your swing about to make contact with your brother’s face, don’t just wait and see what will happen.

(When he saw his poor brother’s face, one eye almost swollen shut, he was HORRIFIED at what he thought he had done. Never have seen that much contrition in his little 6-year-old self.)

Good lessons all around, don’t you think? And I’m pretty sure about this last one, too.

10. This ain’t gonna be the last time.

The bottom line?

Nothing was broken,

and,

a good time was had by all.

What more can I ask?
