Five Minute Friday: Roar

January 6, 2012

Once the house was still and quiet. Calm came often, serenity was it’s friend.

Everything had a place, and was in it.

It was a lonely house.

Then came he and the air trembled with his roars. Albeit infrequent, his presence was made known and the calm gave way to a managed chaos that settled and mellowed over time.

Everything had a place, and was, sometimes, in it.

Like an earthquake he descended – unexpectedly early. The hallways echoed with his roars.

Day and night. Night and day. Day and night.

Calm was a distant memory and serenity forgotten altogether.

It was a happy house.

Most things had a place but were not often in it.

Two puppies, cubs, roar together. Roaring in laughter. Roaring in anger. Roaring in rivalry and triumph.

Iron wills, lusty lungs, hearts as big as the summer sky, and a battle cry that can curdle milk.

It is a noisy house. It is a happy house. It is a den of  boy-bears finding manhood, fighting for their place in the world.

Roar.
