Friday Favorites

February 21, 2014

I used to send you all a list of fun things on Fridays and well, I fell out of that habit a long time ago. Lots of good stuff perking in social media this week, so, surprise! Friday Favorites is back. What are your favorite finds this week?

Controversial Letters – From a Working Mom and Stay-At-Home Mom

This blog post has sparked a lot of conversation. Much of it positive, some of it negative. What do you think?

I know you feel amused and sometimes annoyed when others proclaim “TGIF!” because to you every day is the same – there is no Friday, no break from your job. I know that many people do not understand that you work – you simply work an unpaid job at home.”

I know that when you come home in the evening, your “second shift” begins. The nay-sayers don’t understand that you run a household AND hold a job. You come home, cook dinner, bath your children and read them stories. You tuck them in and kiss them goodnight. You pay the bills, do the grocery shopping, the laundry, the dishes, just like every other mother does.”

Raising Successful Children

“If you can’t stand to see your child unhappy, you are in the wrong business. The small challenges that start in infancy (the first whimper that doesn’t bring you running) present the opportunity for “successful failures,” that is, failures your child can live with and grow from. To rush in too quickly, to shield them, to deprive them of those challenges is to deprive them of the tools they will need to handle the inevitable, difficult, challenging and sometimes devastating demands of life.”

Authenticity in Social Media? What’s that?!

Have you seen all those super-nifty Facebook videos that people are posting? Facebook, in honor of their 10th anniversary, has allowed users to create a video short that summarizes their entire time on Facebook. Pretty amazing technology! But this video is even better. It’s called “An Honest Facebook Movie.”

School Projects Make 67% of Parents Cry (Including Me)

We have a science fair coming up shortly. This photo went viral on Facebook and pretty much describes every school project we’ve had to date. Something to look forward to!

G-O-D made D-O-G and it was G-O-O-D

My favorite thing of all this week? We brought home a dog on Sunday and while it’s thrown our household into total chaos (as to be expected) he’s already brought us tremendous joy. So, of course my Friday Favorites will include my favorite Rufus moment of the week:
